Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un
To God we belong and to Him we shall all Return

It is with great sadness that we hear the news that Britain’s leading Muslim scholar, Dr Zaki Badawi, has this morning passed away.  The Al-Azhar trained scholar, aged 83, was a voice of moderation and reason and considered by many as the ‘grand Mufti of Britain’ on par with the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Chief Rabbi and the Catholic Archbishop of Westminster.

Dr Zaki Badawi was Chair of the Council of Imams and Mosques and Principal of the Muslim College, London.  He was a pioneer of Muslim involvement in inter-faith work.  The country, and notably its Muslim community, has suffered a great loss.
