Christian Brotherly Love Difficult For Some To Attain

by Sheila Musaji

This month (8/09), a new sign paraphrasing a quote from the Qur’an as well as a number of signs saying “Islam is of the devil” have been placed in front of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, where an earlier anti-Islamic sign has stirred protests.

It might be easy to ignore except that it is not simply an isolated incident but part of a theme among a particular segment of American Christians.  The problem is that this group may be a minority, but they are a vocal minorityand when they repeat such distortions often enough without being called on the carpet they not only become more set in their own prejudiced thinking, but they influence others.

All of us as members of whatever faith group need to counter such hateful speech with thoughtful speech.  As Hans Kung has pointed out so beautifully, “There can be no peace among nations until there is peace among the religions.  There can be no peace among the religions without dialogue among the religions”. Somehow we must find a way to change the diatribe into dialogue (as Muslim scholars have requested in the Common Word document) in the interest of working together towards peace.

The American Muslim has collected so many alarming statements about Islam and Muslims over the years that they had to be broken down into sections.  Those by professed Christians are the most concerning.  They are concerning because they absolutely shut down any possibility of dialogue.

Here are a few comments that represent the mindset of this particular segment of Christians:

Alarming statements about Islam and Muslims, TAM article collection here

Mark Alexander said “Make no mistake about it: Islam is our enemy. Islam represents all that is abhorrent to the West: coercion, lack of religious freedom, totalitarianism, and much else besides. But, as the West was built up on largely Christian principles, it is also the negation of the notion that Jesus Christ is man’s Saviour, man’s Redeemer. They say that Jesus Christ was not the Son of God; we say that He was! The West, as a civilization, has been built up on that notion.”  Alexander also said “Islam induces a frame of mind akin to fanaticism.”  **

The American Center for Law & Justice, Rev. Pat Robertson’s group, filed a petition with a court to stop the building of the planned Cordoba House Islamic Center in NYC.  8/6/10 Robertson is speaking out against the Murfreesboro mosque in TN.

Rev. Steven L. Anderson, at Faithful Word Baptist Church in Tempe, AZ explained in a sermon not only “Why I Hate Barack Obama,” but also why he and God both want the president dead.

Rev. John Ankerberg wrote  “Allah is not a God of holiness and love.”  “The Koran presents an evil deity, one who is acknowledged as the author of evil.. “

Rev. Garner Ted Armstrong ”No matter how loudly or how long Muslims proclaim their religion to be a religion of “peace,” such a claim is a blatant lie. Anyone reading the Koran knows better.” in an article The Big Lie of Islam 2002

Former Atty. General Bob Ashcroft said that America has “no King but Jesus”.

Lawrence Auster at the preserving western civilization conference said “It is important to understand that what makes Islam dangerous to non-Muslims is not that Muslims are morally bad people. The problem is not that Muslims are bad people, the problem is that they are good Muslims. Our concern is with the religion and the political ideology of Islam, which makes all Muslims dangerous to us, since all Muslims, even if they personally have no aggressive intentions, even if they are personally fine and lovely people, are part of the Islamic community and owe their highest loyalty to Islam. Therefore any increase in the number of Muslims among us means an increase in the power of Islam and the further spread of the Islamic law.”  **

Rev. Chuck Baldwin commenting on President Bush’s Ramadan message to Muslims “Does Mr. Bush not realize that the Holy Bible, not the Koran, is the one and only written revelation of God to man? Is he that ignorant of Christian teaching? Or, was he deliberately denying Christian doctrine in order to curry favor with his Muslim hosts?...”    “Even more disturbing is the manner in which Christian ministers have accepted Bush’s apostasy. At the national level, only Pat Robertson and Franklin Graham seem willing to correctly identify the Muslim religion for what it is: a religion of violence and hatred….”  2002

Gov. Robert Bentley of Alabama, just hours into office, said that people who have not accepted Jesus as their savior are not his “brothers and sisters.” 1/2011

Bible Verses on U.S. military rifle scopes send alarming message.

Rev. Dwight Billingsley who said regarding including acknowledgement of Muslim students’ holidays in public schools:  “What we should be saying is that in the public square — in our public schools and other public places — mainstream American values and beliefs will prevail and that they must accept that. They can be a part of our cultural traditions if they choose to be, but we will not recognize their traditions as equivalent to ours because in our eyes, they aren’t. They can be included, but that means that their traditions will be tolerated, not elevated to equivalence with the traditional American cultural norms.”  **

Vic Biorseth on the Thinking Catholic site said We must outlaw the Koran just as soon as we have the legislative power to do it. We need legislation in defense of the whole of the American Ideal, including the Declaration and the Constitution. Islam is just flat out anti-American, and it seeks to destroy all that we have and all that we are. ...  No one who holds to Islam, in part or in whole, can honestly take and keep an oath of office involving the defense and safeguarding of the Constitution. These are opposite and antagonistic ideologies. Any elected or appointed official whose office is subject to such an oath should step down or be removed from office. No candidate for any such office who is identifiably Moslem should be held to be qualified for the office.  No member of the American armed forces who holds to Islam, in part or in whole, can honestly take and keep the oath of office for entry into the military, because Islam and the Constitution are opposites and antagonists. Any such member of the military should step down or be removed from uniform. No candidate for military service who is identifiably Moslem should be held to be qualified for service.

Gen. William Boykin, BBC News Reported that he said, in uniform, in reference to Islam: “Well you know what I knew, that my God was bigger than his,” said Lt Gen Boykin. “I knew that my God was a real God, and his was an idol.”  **

The Call website statement on the Muslim Prayer Day in D.C. said “It is our responsibility to pray the Lord protects America from the subtle tactics satan is using to release demonic prayers in a nation founded on Christian principles.”  9/09   **

Gary Cass, executive director of Reclaiming America who said “The most humble Christian is more qualified for office than the best-educated pagan. We built quite a little grass-roots machine out there [in San Diego]. Now it’s my burden to multiply that success all across America.” *

Catch the Fire Ministries attempted to defend itself in an Australian court from charges of vilifying Islam with the claim that “The Quran contradicts Christian doctrine in a number of places and, under the blasphemy law, is therefore illegal.”

Rev. David Chilton who said “The Christian goal for the world is the universal development of Biblical theocratic republics”  He also saidThe god of Judaism is the devil. The Jew will not be recognized by God as one of His chosen people until he abandons his demonic religion and returns to the faith of his fathers—the faith which embraces Jesus Christ and His Gospel.”

Rev. W.A. Criswell who said “There is no such thing as separation of church and state. It is merely a figment of the imagination of infidels.”  *

Christian Action Network produces anti-Muslim film “Islam Rising”

The Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry site decrees that God’s law comes before the Constitution:  [Question:] Shall we obey God’s Law or human law?  [Answer:] …The simple answer is that Christians are to obey human law except where that human law violates God’s Law.  Our supreme duty is to obey God.  Since God tells us to also obey human laws, we should.  But, when they come in conflict, we are to “obey God rather than men.”

Christian Broadcasting Network News - on Ramadan celebration at White House - Islam, referred to by some politicians as a religion of peace, is viewed by many conservative Americans as a faith rooted in violence and hostility toward non-Muslims, collectively referred to as “infidels.” ... “The Bible teaches that leaders who embraced, tolerated or celebrated foreign gods brought suffering and disaster upon their nation.” 10/07

Christian Voice group holds prayer meeting against Islam in Britain - But don’t get the idea that Christian Voice is moved by hostility towards adherents of another religion. Not at all: “Love for God and for our neighbour is what motivates us, so while we shall pray against Islam, we shall also pray for salvation for Muslims and for them to be brought into the kingdom of God by faith in the incarnate Son of God, the crucified, risen, ascended Lord Jesus Christ.” 10/07

Rev. David Clippard at the Southern Baptist Convention, opened the event by linking Baptist history with the church’s mission: to conquer evil. Islam, he said, is an evil encroaching on the United States. ... ”The real threat we are facing today is that Islam has a strategic plan to conquer and occupy America,” he said. ... “They have a plan to take over,” he said. ”The first city is Detroit which has 600,000 people. Three hundred thousand are Muslims today.”  2006

John Chrysostom (c. 347–407), was an important early church Father. The Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches honour him as a saint and Doctor of the Church. Chrysostom preached: “The Jews … are worse than wild beasts … lower than the vilest animals. Debauchery and drunkenness had brought them to the level of the lusty goat and the pig. They know only … to satisfy their stomachs, to get drunk, to kill and beat each other up … I hate the Jews … I hate the Synagogue … it is the duty of all Christians to hate the Jews.”  [1]

Edward Cline, the novelist saidAmerican Muslims must face their either/or, to repudiate Islam or remain a quiet, sanctioning fifth column.”

Charles Colson, founder of the Prison Fellowships Ministries, told the Southern Baptist Convention’s Pastor’s Conference that “Islam is a vicious evil.” While decrying Islam’s goal of imposing Sharia law on the entire world, Colson (apparently immune to the concept of hypocrisy) stated “What is our purpose in life It is to restore the fallen culture to the glory of God. It’s to take command and dominion over every aspect of life, whether it’s music, science, law, politics, communities, families, to bring Christianity to bear in every single area of life.”

Dan Cooper, an undersecretary of veterans affairs, says in a Christian Embassy video that his weekly prayer sessions are “more important than doing the job.” Maj. Gen. Jack Catton says that his being an adviser to the Joint Chiefs of Staff is a “wonderful opportunity” to evangelize men and women setting defense policy. “My first priority is my faith,” he says. “I think it’s a huge impact…. You have many men and women who are seeking God’s counsel and wisdom as they advise the chairman [of the Joint Chiefs] and the secretary of defense.” source

Tom Cooper of The Israel Report “Allah is NOT the same God as the God of the Jews and Christians. Allah was a moon god, one amongst thousands of gods that Muhammad declared to be the one true god, whose origins go back to Baal worship. He is not the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that the Holy Bible declares to be the one true God. No… Allah is none other than Satan himself, and to compare the hateful religion of Islam to the revelation of the loving God of the Jews and Christians is simply ludicrous.”  2007

They might, but it is not their right given by God. Their right is to repent…” and Detroit is ground zero for the spiritual war in our nation. Poverty, racism, and Islam are most powerfully rooted here - more than anywhere else in the nation.

Family Research Council “[W]hile it is true that the United States of America was founded on the sacred principle of religious freedom for all, that liberty was never intended to exalt other religions to the level that Christianity holds in our country’s heritage. Our Founders expected that Christianity—and no other religion—would receive support from the government as long as that support did not violate peoples’ consciences and their right to worship.” 2001

— Rev. Falwell on CROSSFIRE said ”I have not seen in the headlines of Americas major newspapers a single American Muslim organization condemn what happened to Daniel Pearl at the hand of some of these Islamic crazies.” Ibrahim Hooper told Falwell that his organization was quick to condemn Pearl’s brutal murder, as did the Muslim Public Affairs Council, the American Muslim Council, the Islamic Society of North America, the Islamic Circle of North America and the ministry of Imam W.D. Muhammed, among others.  2001

Brigitte Gabriel at the second annual “Christians United For Israel” conference, held at the Marriott Wardman hotel in Washington, D.C. - “The difference, my friends, between Israel and the Arab world is the difference between civilization and barbarism. It’s the difference between good and evil [applause].... this is what we’re witnessing in the Arabic world, They have no SOUL!, they are dead set on killing and destruction. And in the name of something they call “Allah” which is very different from the God we believe. . .[applause] because our God is the God of love.” - Bridgette Gabriel, CUFI 7/07

Rev. George Grant who said ”Christian politics has as its primary intent the conquest of the land - of men, families, institutions, bureaucracies, courts, and governments for the Kingdom of Christ. It is to reinstitute the authority of God’s Word as supreme over all judgments, over all legislation, over all declarations, constitutions, and confederations. True Christian political action seeks to rein the passions of men and curb the pattern of digression under God’s rule.”  *

Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said “I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution. But I believe it’s a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God. And that’s what we need to do is amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than trying to change God’s standards so it lines up with some contemporary view of how we treat each other and how we treat the family.”  *

They are what they have been throughout history. Sadly, every indication suggests that they will continue to pursue a course of brutality and chaos. It appears that we will either have to fight them or surrender to them. The eventual outcome of these inevitable choices is yet to be determined.” 2006

Joel McDurmon, director of research for American Vision (AV), a Georgia-based Religious Right outfit that seeks to replace our constitutional democracy with a government built around an ultra-fundamentalist reading of the Bible. said “The evangelical mantra,” he says, “has always been ‘hate the sin but love the sinner,’ which is good pastoral advice to a large degree, but even this piece of folk-wisdom falls short of the biblical standard. God and His spokesmen reveal a clear role for hate of both sin (Ps. 97:10; 101:3; 119:104, 113, 128, 163; 139:21, 22) and the sinners themselves (Ps. 5:5; 11:5; 26:5; 31:6; Mal. 1:1–3; Rom. 9:13) in some circumstances.”  March 2010

Rev. Robert Morey on the St. Louis am 630 radio program “The Tim and Al Show” says Let’’s bomb Mecca and Medina and that will end Islam.  It will become ‘‘a lame duck’’ without its holy sites.” 2002.  Morey also wrote First, as I wrote in my book, How to Win the War Against Radical Islam, the war against the Muslim Jihadists will be long and costly and will not be won until we bomb the Kabah in Mecca.  Islam is based on a brick and mortar building that can be destroyed. They pray to that building five times a day, make a pilgrimage to it, run around it, kiss a black rock on the wall, then run between two hills and finally throw rocks at a pillar. What if that building, the Kabah, was destroyed? They could not pray to it or make a pilgrimage to it. The old pagan temple of the moon-god, al-ilah, is the Achilles’ heel of Islam. Destroy it and you destroy Islam’s soul.  source

Gary North who said “The long-term goal of Christians in politics should be to gain exclusive control over the franchise. Those who refuse to submit publicly to the eternal sanctions of God by submitting to His Church’s public marks of the covenant - baptism and holy communion - must be denied citizenship, just as they were in ancient Israel.”  Gary North also said “This is God’s world, not Satan’s. Christians are the lawful heirs, not non-Christians.”  *

Religion is its cover (its beard) by which it gains entrance into nations where the ‘freedom of religion’ is sacrosanct. It then takes this freedom afforded to it, and begins its insidious takeover.” 9/10
