Salma Abugideiri

Salma Abugideiri is the Co-Director of the Peaceful Families Project and a licensed professional counselor in private practice in Sterling, VA. She received her Master’s degree in counseling from George Mason University, and completed a post-Master’s certification program in marriage and family therapy at Virginia Tech. Abugideiri provides individual, family and couples’ counseling, and works with children, adolescents and adults. She provides treatment for a wide range of problems, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, abuse, and cultural adjustment issues. Abugideiri has worked extensively with refugees, immigrants, and Muslim families. She has sought to improve the Muslim community’s access to mental health services. In addition to providing therapy, she enjoys consulting and providing cultural sensitivity trainings. Abugideiri has also coauthored a brief guide for helping professionals entitled “What Islam Says About Domestic Violence.”
