ERIC ABU MUNIR WINKEL, Born in Manhattan, Kansas, Eric Winkel lived in Geneva, Switzerland, for the 7th-11th grades, becoming a good skier and a citizen of the world at the International School. At Haverford, then Penn, then the University of South Carolina, he undertook eclectic studies, mostly religion at first, focusing on spiritual matters, then later including political science, numerous languages to enable study of religious and spiritual texts (Sanskrit, Greek, Coptic, Tamil, Arabic, others, besides French and German). An Ibn ђArabi scholar, Dr Winkel taught at the International Islamic University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and was Senior Fulbright Scholar in Islamabad, Pakistan. He was also Dean of Students at the International Institute of Chinese Medicine in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He has an eleven-year-old son, Munir, in Atlanta. Eric lives in New Mexico with his wife Ely, whom he married in the Maldives, and is starting a charter school for high school students in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
