Thomas Jefferson and Sarah Palin: Birds of a Feather?

by Dr. Robert D. Crane

Once upon a time, 206 years ago, in one of his rambunctious moods, the author of America’s Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson, addressed America’s current financial meltdown with the following warning:  “I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless.”  Shades of prophetic wisdom!

Of course, America’s only home-grown Al Qa’ida movement almost forty years ago had a simple answer: “Bomb the Banks,” which its rambunctious members did two hundred times in a single year, 1970.

A better solution, not only more humane but much more effective, would be to permit banks to create only money backed by real assets, not by debt.

Furthermore, in order to address the constantly growing wealth gap within and among nations, perhaps the privately-owned Federal Reserve Bank should be abolished, so that the federal government can create money with a provision that it be interest-free when used to fund enterprises that vest ownership of the newly produced wealth in the employees or in the residents of a Community Investment Corporation.

And, of course, as part of Capital Homesteading, every American should be given $7,000 at birth and every year thereafter in pure credit for carefully regulated investment through the commercial banking system in productive enterprises, so that everyone would have more than enough to pay for one’s own education, health care, and retirement.  This has all been spelled out by professionals at the interfaith Center for Economic and Social Justice, http://www.cesj.org.

The necessary paradigm of justice that gives rise to these three breakthroughs, however, would require the institution of normative economics, which essentially is part of the Islamic maqasid al shari’ah, specifically the maqsud known as haqq al mal, about which neither of the major parties in America has a clue.

Only Sarah Palin might have the courage to start such a real revolution, but so far she is totally brain-washed by the current system.

Sarah, however, is potentially a holy terror, like the Weathermen were in a similar period of American history.  If Sarah can “dress a moose”, which means to strip its hide off, cut off its legs, and disembowel its guts, she should be able to inspire enough support from her own constituency of about a hundred million Americans to “dress Washington”, in sha’a Allah.
