Some truths you are not going to hear on American corporate media on #Gaza

by Omid Safi

Here are some truths you are not going to hear on American corporate media, or from the sold out American politicians about what’s taking place in Palestine/Israel.

No, this ruthless brutal assault in ‪#‎Gaza‬ is not about “peace” or getting closer to “peace.”  And this truth has to be spoken clearly and unambiguously.

One of the common myths perpetuated by the supporters of the “peace process” is that Hamas is an obstacle to peace, and Netanyahu really wants to eliminate Hamas so that he can work towards a two-state solution. This is a bold face lie that has to be resisted and exposed.

Let us begin with the Israeli Prime Minister, Netanyahu. His intentions could not be any more clear. Here he is, in his own words this past week, though you will not hear his words in American media:

“I think the Israeli people understand now what I always say: that there cannot be a situation, under any agreement, in which we relinquish security control of the territory west of the River Jordan.” http://www.timesofisrael.com/netanyahu-finally-speaks-his-mind/

West of River Jordan. That includes the West Bank [in addition to Gaza and the rest of historical Palestine/ “proper Israel”]. Yes, the same West Bank that is supposedly to be the heart of the future Palestinian state in the reported two-state solution. The same future Palestinian state that currently sits dotted with Jews-only settlements connected by Israeli only roads. The same site of the alleged future Palestinian state that in the years that the Israelis have dragged on the sham of the so-called peace process, they have more than doubled the number of illegal Jewish settlers in the Jews-only settlements on the West Bank. [See map below.]

Netanyahu is conveying his stance that they will never relinquish the land. - No Palestinian state. - No two-state solution.

Now, where are we going to hear about this in American media?

Which of the senators who voted 100-0 to extend military aid to Israel will comment on this as an obstacle to the so-called peace that supposedly we are working towards?

And will the American President—or the next presidential contenders (looking at you, Hillary Clinton)—stand against Netanyahu as an obstacle to peace?

I think we all already know the answer.

Netanyahu is not even the most genocidal of the Israeli politicians spewing venom.

Here is the deputy Knesset member Moshe Feiglin, the deputy speaker of Israel’s parliament, the Knesset. In a new op-ed, Feiglin openly discussed his vision for ethnically cleansing Palestinians in Gaza, and repopulating Gaza with Jews.  In other words, he is proposing a further extension of the ethnic cleansing of 1948, the Nakba:

“Attack the entire ‘target bank’ throughout Gaza with the IDF’s maximum force (and not a tiny fraction of it) with all the conventional means at its disposal. All the military and infrastructural targets will be attacked with no consideration for ‘human shields’ or ‘environmental damage’…. Subsequent to the elimination of terror from Gaza, it will become part of sovereign Israel and will be populated by Jews.” http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Articles/Article.aspx/15326#.U8tBy1YSKCX

The chilling murderous aspirations of this racist member of the Israeli Knesset is of course never brought up in any of the corporate media in America. Yes, Israel might be a “democracy” with election, but it is an election that can have members of its Knesset openly calling for genocide with no consequence.

No American politician is going to speak of this as part of a “culture of death” that has to be dismantled before Israel can become a viable partner for peace.

And there’s also another member of the Israeli Knesset, Ayelet Shaked, who used to be the office director for Netanyahu, who has publicly called—on Facebook, none the less—for the destruction of all Palestinians, “including its elderly and its women, its cities and its villages, its property and its infrastructure.”

And so that we are not under any delusions about Hamas and make Hamas into a paragon of virtue, let us remember that from its charter, Hamas calls for the destruction of the “Zionist entity.”

What makes this conversation about Gaza so heart-wrenching is that at the same time that the Israeli spin-masters are on every corporate media show, that Hillary Clinton is on Jon Stewart blaming the death of Palestinians on Palestinians (rather than on the people dropping bombs on Palestinians), and at the same time that hundreds of thousands of people are marching around the world protesting the Israeli invasion of Gaza, Palestinians are dying. Over 350 so far, including about 75 innocent children.

Today, tonight, Gaza is being bombed every few seconds.

Tonight, under the cover of the dark, Israel is dropping bombs with shrapnel on urban neighborhoods, and killing more children today than yesterday.

On one side is Hamas, which the United States and Israel brand a terrorist organization.

On the other side is the Israeli regime, the alleged “only real democracy in the region”, which is headed by people who openly are espousing permanent occupation and ethnic cleansing.
And the people of Gaza die, every day.

If we as the world community want to see a real, lasting, just, and meaningful peace for all the residents of this beautiful land, it is not just Hamas which will have to go, but also the murderous Israeli politicians, both the ones who espouse it, and the ones who like Netanyahu are actually carrying it out.
