Pacific Palisades Democratic Club Withdraws Honor Award to Nobel Peace Prize Nominee, Mikey Weinstein

About two weeks after The Pacific Palisades Democratic Club offered its prestigious Anne Froelich Political Courage Award at a dinner to twice-nominated Noble Peace Prize nominee Mikey Weinstein and the Military Religious Freedom Foundation he founded, the club’s President Mike Stryer decided to withdraw the honor, with the lame excuse that 27 years ago Mikey was working as a White House staff lawyer with President Reagan, a position which was assigned to him by the Air Force.  The event was supposed to take place October 3rd.

The club was founded in January 1971 and has a membership base of almost 1,000 people, mostly from Pacific Palisades and some from Santa Monica, Malibu and Brentwood.  The Palisades Club is and has been very active in local, state and national politics.

The actual event that was to honor Mikey Weinstein is called The Anne Froelich Political Courage Awards Dinner. Previous winners Ambassador Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame were so angered by the insult to Mikey Weinstein, they returned their awards.

Weinstein founded The Military Religious Freedom Foundation to directly battle the evangelical, fundamentalist religious right.  He was also named one of the 50 most influential Jews in America by the Forward, one of the nation’s preeminent Jewish publications.

Mikey Weinstein is the undisputed leader of the national movement to restore the obliterated wall separating church and state in the most technologically lethal organization ever created by humankind; the United States armed forces.

Subject: From Ambassador Joe Wilson to Pacific Palisades Dem. Club

Please send me an address to which I may return the awards you gave to Valerie and me and please immdeiately cease to cite Valerie and me as recipients of the award. After what you just did to Mikey Weinstein, we have no interest in having our names being associated with your club. Thank you. Joe Wilson
