The National Association of Muslim American Women (NAMAW) is calling upon all Muslims, and Muslim nations to stand with Palestine and the Palestinian people. NAMAW is asking that Muslims and other people of conscience and compassion join in an international boycott of Israeli, and Quartet country goods and services in response to their refusal to recognize the Palestinian election results, and threats to withhold humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in an attempt to punish the people for electing Hamas.

“Should Israel and the Quartet countries continue to act maliciously towards the newly elected Palestinian government, Muslims throughout the world should refuse to purchase goods manufactured in these countries, or to use or purchase their services,” says NAMAW founder and Chairwoman, Anisa Abd el Fattah. “The international community of Muslims have stood silent long enough as European, Israeli and US interests have used economic weapons against Muslim people, women and children, seeking to punish and coerce submission from Muslims to the dictates of these countries. Those days are over. No longer should Muslim countries, and peoples be starved to death, and brought to their knees by the hateful policies of countries who seem incapable of recognizing the rights of others, and whose aim always is to punish and destroy anyone and any Muslim people who act independently.”  “We watched as the US and UN economic sanctions against Iraq killed millions of children through the deprivation of food and medical supplies. At that time, then US Secretary of State Madeline Albright was asked about the deaths of innocent Muslim children, and the Iraqi people, and she responded, saying that if the people are tired of their children dying, and the economic sanctions, they should change their government.” Today we are witnessing another such illegal and inhumane approach to a Muslim people by Israel, the US and the so-called Quartet,” said Abd el Fattah. “This time the international community of Muslims should not allow this type of war of attrition to succeed in Palestine as it did in Iraq.”

“We will spend the following days contacting the international Muslim bodies such as the OIC and the Arab League, and the embassies of Muslim countries, asking them to stand with the Palestinian people against this attempt to punish them for going to the polls and exercising their right to vote and to elect their own representatives. The UN declared a humanitarian crisis in the occupied territories, which includes both Gaza and the West Bank. The Muslim world and peoples should not tolerate that a people already in crisis be further impoverished, and humiliated.” According to Abd el Fattah, NAMAW will also be seeking to coalesce with non-Muslim groups who recognize the threatened and anticipated inhumane action against Palestine and the Palestinian people as an illegal attempt to punish the Palestinians in retaliation for choosing their legislative representatives.
