Sofia Mariam Khilji [] is a graduating senior from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. She will be completing her undergraduate degree in international political economy with a certificate in Arab Studies in May 2005. Her studies include government policy relating to trade, finance, international growth and development, as well as the participation of civil society in these processes and the consequences of income distribution. She has contributed to the Hoya on civil rights and diversity issues and writes on about politics and human rights. Most recently she spent a semester studying Arabic and history at the American University in Cairo and has lived and traveled extensively throughout the Middle East. She has experience in foreign policy and media organizations such as, the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, Meridian International Center, and as an intern for Congressman Donald Payne (D-NJ) on the House International Affairs committee. She has also done research for Professor Scott Redford on Islamic art and currently works as a research and teaching assistant for Professor Maysam al Faruqi in Islamic thought and practice.
