From 1998 to 2003, Hala served as the Development Director and Admissions Director for New Horizon School in Pasadena, CA. Hala received her BS degree in Basic Medical Sciences from Kuwait University Faculty of Medicine/North Carolina State University and her MS degree in Toxicology from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C. She also received her Board certification from the American Board of Toxicology, Inc. in 1993 and worked as an environmental consultant from 1988 to 1998. Hala has been active with the interfaith community both as a speaker on Islam and previously as the Muslim representative on the Board of Directors of the San Fernando Valley Interfaith Council (VIC).
