ATTENTION: IRAQI WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION HAVE BEEN FOUND!

In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

After years of exhaustive searching, the elusive weapons of mass destruction - the primary reason for our invasion of Iraq more than four years ago - have been found. It seems the Bush Administration was telling the truth all along about Iraq and its WMD. As reported by both the New York Times and Washington Post, a potentially deadly chemical agent produced by Saddam Hussein’s regime has been found. Our much maligned President has been vindicated.

Yeah, right.

A small container containing phosgene, a potentially deadly chemical agent, was found in the…UN office in New York. Apparently, it had been there for more than ten years! The discovery of the container sent a joint hazardous-materials team to the UN office on Thursday.

“There is no immediate risk or danger,” said Marie Okabe, deputy spokeswoman for the United Nations. “UNMOVIC (UN Monitoring and Verification Commission) staff are still working on the premises,” she said on Thursday. An investigation is underway to determine how such a potentially deadly chemical could have remained in the UN office undetected for so long.

The phosgene was recovered from the Muthanna chemical weapons facility in 1996. This gas - which can severely damage the skin, eyes, nose, throat, and lungs - was used extensively during WWI and was used by Saddam Hussein on the Kurdish population in the last 1980s (while, sadly, the Muslim world looked on).

At a press briefing, White House spokesman Tony Snow said: “These items should not have ended up, obviously, at the New York offices. Normally they would be transported to an appropriately equipped laboratory for analysis. I’m sure that there are going to be a lot of red-faced people over at the U.N. trying to figure out how they got there.”

Yet, I wonder. Are there any red-faced people in the White House? Anyone with even an inkling of shame, regret, or sadness over the fact that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? Anyone in the White House who - if only for a millisecond - thinks that maybe the invasion of Iraq was a terrible mistake, with disastrous consequences for years to come?

Yeah, right.

The White House still clings to its belief that the invasion of Iraq is the “central front” in the war on terror. The White House refuses to believe that all is not good in Iraq, disputing the findings of the recent gloomy GAO report. As more American soldiers and Iraqi civilians die in this war, not only does the President still think invading Iraq was legitimate, but evidence continues to mount that the U.S. has plans to strike Iran.

I pray the Lord stops these people from carrying out their plans. Our country can hardly afford another war in the Middle East. And none can do it better than He: They plan and plot, and God plans; and He is the best of planners.
