Generation Islam Network for North American Muslims

Are you a second-generation North American Muslim? A North American convert to Islam? Do you want to change the face of Islam in North America to truly reflect the whole picture? Do you want to meet others who can relate to being North American AND Muslim?

If so, generation Islam is the group for you! By coming together we (inshallah) ensure the future of Islam in North America! It’s not generation x its generation I!!!

Our Vision

generation Islam will be a widespread network of North American born Muslims, both second generation and converts, which will give that silent majority a voice in the continued evolution of Muslim society in North America, creating institutions which are genuinely inclusive and fostering an environment which is both authentically Muslim and comfortably North American.

*  To connect with other Muslims born or raised in North America in order to support each other and to get to know each other through open dialog and questions

*  To be the thread that holds the patchwork quilt of the ummah together

*  To foster an environment that supports our sisters in the masjid by ensuring proper prayer spaces and programs specifically for the encouragement of women to take part in their Islamic community

*  An environment that draws our future, our youth, into Islam through fellowship and fun to stem the tide of alienation felt by many of our youth

*  We will support Islamic study and scholarships for our homegrowns in order to ensure future leaders for our ultimate goal of building and managing North American run masjids, community centers, schools and youth camps

*  To bridge the gap between the two generations through intercultural and intergenerational dialogue

*  An organization that will provide a springboard for identifying and defining the North American born or raised Muslim for those who don’t feel the need to choose between the two

*  We would like to change the negative image that Muslims have in the North American society by first changing ourselves to be the “superheroes” of the world with random acts of kindness large or small, and by learning from each other through both intra and inter-faith understanding

Our Objectives

*  To connect with other Muslims born or raised in North America

*  To support each other in our ongoing journey
*  To develop a base where open dialogue and questions are encouraged and explored
*  To ensure moderate centers of support for North American homegrowns and Converts to Islam
*  To strive to create a positive and supportive masjid environment
*  To encourage a melting pot masjid through our MULTICULTURAL MASJID initiative
*  To bridge the gap between the two generations through intercultural and intergenerational dialogue
*  To establish a voice for North American Muslims who don’t feel the need to choose between their identity as North Americans and their identity as Muslims
*  To set up funds for those interested in furthering their Islamic Studies in order to encourage scholarship for North American homegrowns and converts
*  To equip ourselves with knowledge—-an active group that will understand that knowledge is key
*  To explore and re-examine Islamic texts in order to keep our iman and Islam alive
*  To engage in ongoing, respectful, interfaith dialogue and regular charitable community service
*  To meet at an annual conference/retreat
