Tom DeLay wants Rosie O’Donnel Fired

by Sheila Musaji

Tom DeLay published an article on TownHall.com entitled “Action Points: If the Left Takes Imus, We’ll Take Rosie” in which he says: “That’s why I am calling on conservatives to use the available media (radio talk shows, blogs, letters to the editor) to protest and demand that Rosie O’Donnell be kicked off The View.”

Rosie O’Donnel responded on her blog and pointed out DeLay’s indictments for conspiracy to violate election law, money laundering, etc.  The number of responses to blogs on this movement by DeLay shows that the public is very interested in this issue.

In this article DeLay also brings up Jesse Jackson’s “hymietown” comment and Al Sharpton’s conviction for libel in a case where he publicly accused a white assistant district attorney of raping a young black girl.  It appears that for him these previous errors in judgement mean that they no longer have the right to speak out on this issue of free speech.

This is the same Tom DeLay who in 2002 as House Majority Whip, according to Michael Ryan is quoted as saying in a speech at a Texas, Baptist Church: “Christianity offers the only viable, reasonable, definitive answer to the questions of ‘Where did I come from?’ ‘Why am I here?’ ‘Where am I going?’ ‘Does life have any meaningful purpose?’ - and “Only Christianity offers a comprehensive worldview that covers all areas of life and thought, every aspect of creation. Only Christianity offers a way to live in response to the realities that we find in this world—only Christianity.”   And, the same Tom DeLay who thinks there is a “war on Christianity” in this country.

The same Tom DeLay who on a 2003 visit to Israel said: “I didn’t see any occupied territory—what I saw was Israel.”

And who in an April 11, 2007 article said“The global war on terror, while often referred to as a new or different kind of war, is shaping up to share several similarities with the Cold War. The opponents are not nations, exactly, but two fundamental, irreconcilable philosophies. On one side is Western, capitalistic, democratic liberalism, tolerant of and sustained by scientific and philosophical curiosity and informed by Judeo-Christian values. On the other side is theocratic, dictatorial Islamic fundamentalism, by definition intolerant of scientific or philosophical inquiry (let alone dissent). It is not simply informed by the Quran but insistent upon obedience to Sharia law, including its terrifying demands for unending, violent jihad against anyone who refuses to bow to Muhammad’s 7th-century proposition, “Submit or die.”

The AOL online poll on whether or not Rosie O’Donnel should be fired is so far running 75% in favor of firing her.  An MSNBC online poll has 58% saying no to firing her.

There is a Keep Rosie petition if you want to weigh in on this issue.
