CAIR Asks Ala. Gov, AG to Repudiate Chief Justice’s Claim that 1st Amendment Only Applies to Christians

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today called on Alabama’s governor and attorney general to reaffirm the constitutional rights of all that state’s citizens after video surfaced in which Chief Justice Roy Moore of the Alabama Supreme Court seemed to claim that the First Amendment only applies to Christians because “Buddha didn’t create us, Mohammed didn’t create us.” Justice Moore went on to state: “They didn’t bring the Koran [Islam’s revealed text] over on the pilgrim ship.”

In a statement reacting to Justice Moore’s pronouncement, Washington-based CAIR, the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, said:

“Given Chief Justice Moore’s apparent belief that the Constitution does not protect all Alabama residents, we call on the governor and state attorney general to repudiate such un-American views and to reaffirm the First Amendment rights of all Alabamans.”
